The foundation is currently prioritizing focus on a transformational initiative involving multiple partners and not currently accepting additional full grant proposals, but is accepting concept letters.
Our Mission
To identify and support programs that help middle school and high school students connect their education to their future career choices by providing the resources and opportunities they need to investigate, explore, and experience the array of career options available to them in a 21st century global economy.
Our Goal
To develop sustainable, comprehensive career education and career exploration programs that will enable the greatest number of students possible to make informed career decisions.
Programs We Fund
The Schwab Foundation funds proven, evidence-based programs with clearly defined goals, objectives/outcomes, and sound evaluation plans.
In some cases, the Schwab Foundation is also willing to consider funding for planning grants and/or carefully controlled innovative pilot programs. Visit the Concept Letters page to learn more.
Other key elements we consider:
- A clear connection to the funding priorities of the Schwab Foundation
- A focus on a diverse student population
- Reasonable expenditure per student served (A program that serves a smaller number of students may be considered for funding if the students are not adequately served by other programs.)
- Goals must be measurable
- Programs must be sustainable (We prefer not to be the only funder of a program.)
We do not fund:
- Educational scholarships
- General operations
- Capital improvements
- Equipment
- Salaries (unless the position is fully associated with the program we fund)
- And no more than 10% of any award may be used for food
