Overview
The Schwab Foundation uses a Letter of Intent (LOI) as the first step in its grant application process for planning grants and innovative pilot programs.
The LOI is completed through the Community Foundation’s online grant application system. Applicants do not need to prepare or submit a separate letter by mail or email.
The information provided through the LOI form helps the Schwab Foundation determine whether a proposed program aligns with its mission and funding priorities before inviting an organization to submit a full grant proposal.
When to Submit an LOI
Organizations seeking funding for the following are encouraged to complete the online LOI form during an open grant cycle:
- New program ideas
- Program expansion
- Planning or pilot initiatives
Information Requested
The online LOI form asks organizations to provide information about:
- The program’s purpose and goals
- The student population to be served
- How the program supports career awareness and readiness
- Key activities and experiences, such as internships, mentorship or hands-on learning
- Expected outcomes and how success will be measured
- Alignment with the Schwab Foundation’s funding priorities
Review Process
Submitted LOIs are reviewed for alignment, feasibility and potential impact. Selected organization will be invited to compete a full grant application through the online grant system.
Additional Information
- LOI forms may only be submitted during open grant cycles
- An LOI is not required for ongoing or previously funded programs unless otherwise communicated
- Full grant applications are accepted by invitation only
- LOIs and full applications must be submitted through the online grant system; materials sent by mail or email will not be accepted
